As our club continues to grow, so does our need for volunteers who can fulfil coaching¬†and refereeing roles. In¬†support¬†of our current and future junior coaches¬†we are excited to offer an all new ‘Junior Coaching¬†Academy’,¬†designed for players¬†aged 12-16¬†who are either current coaches or who are interested in starting their coaching journey.¬†By investing in our younger coaches,¬†the¬†Academy will provide broad-reaching benefits across the whole¬†Comets¬†community by increasing both the number and quality of our coaches.

Through offering this coaching development program to our junior players, we hope to enable them to take the next step in their basketball careers. Participants will be provided with a range of valuable tools that will give them the confidence to step up as coaches on completion of the program, such as:

  • coaching resources and¬†plans
  • opportunities to learn from our¬†most experienced coaches
  • learning experiences, clinics and coaching courses
  • mentors and contacts to support them throughout their coaching journey

Every coach needs to start somewhere and with the launch of this exciting new opportunity, NOW is the time! Why You Should Encourage Your Child to CoachBasketball can be enjoyed though multiple avenues, and coaching brings the opportunity to learn many new skills and leadership traits that will benefit your children well into adulthood. They will learn to communicate and deal effectively with people of all ages. As new coaches continue to gain coaching experience, they build:

  • Confidence
  • Communication Skills
  • Patience
  • Resilience
  • Respect
  • Persistence
  • Gratitude
  • Teamwork

Coaches continue to build on these skills from season to season and can get just as much out of coaching as they do from playing. Being able to share their knowledge in a sport that they personally enjoy can also bring coaches happiness and a great sense of accomplishment.Photo: Some of our junior coaches in action. What The Academy Has To Offer
